Break The Silhouette is the studio, story, and sometimes-pseudonym of emerging Baltimore artist Rick Hutchinson. He works primarily in oils, combining elements of surrealism, abstraction, and allegory. Some pieces are whimsical, some mysterious, some the stuff of nightmares. Whatever the genre, whatever the style, each piece invites the viewer to consider the broader narrative context of the image. 'Who are we?' 'What are we?' 'Where are we going?'
So often we confine ourselves to shadows. This work strives not to defeat those shadows, but to bridge the light and the dark. To pierce the line that divides them. To break the silhouette.
